From MISTY GOWER, copy editor, Flint Journal: I'm surprised to see that no one is mentioning the outrage that we are feeling about both the Detroit News and the Detroit Free Press selling today's front pages to Marshall Field's. Yes, the front pages are full-page ads. The News even went so far as to label its "true" front page 3A.
Down the road at our newspaper here in Flint, Mich., we are disgusted.
On the fronts of The Detroit News and The Free Press a full page wrapped dubble truck over the front pages. So a four page section on top of the Freep and News A1 covers...
All I know is, newspapers are hurting for money and I never knew it would came down to news fronts... I am sure it was a lot of money for them... The Detroit News numbered there 1A front to 3A.
Right. I saw the 3A page number when I looked it up on newseum. But was the four-page wrap meant to look like a front page? Was it deceitful in any way? Also, was there news content on 2A or was that an ad page, too? I mean, the News sells a 1A ad every day. I guess I'm just looking for even more info.
It was an sideways American flag on the entire page with Mashall Fields Memorial day sale across the bottom no news content on the front and no news content on the back page more ad stuff. 2A and the second to last last A page was the Mashall Fields dubble truck. The front was numbered 1A with a newspaper flag and date cross the top. I hope you can picture it. I can't find the pages for you. Just like you would do for a Super Bowl win wrapped over the front page and back... Does that help?
By-the-way they are also in the boxes like that. I went to the gym today and saw the Freep and News in the box with the a big American flag as their front. Does that sale papers? Are readers going to be mad when they realize it is NOT a soldier dedications, but instead an ad?
