I would be amazing if it were. I'm not saying it's not, but why did it just come out yesterday? And it appears that woman at the bottom is smiling, which is odd. Does anyone know what the credit is on this? Did it move on the wires?
I bet there'll be a LOT of amateur photography surfacing in the next few days. Amateur video keeps popping up on the cable channels.
EDIT: Don't listen to me. I don't know what I'm talking about, as it pertains to this specific photo. I was too lazy to look at a bigger page image. _________________ I've upped my standards — now, up yours.

Some nice PS work, but mostly — and I'll walk the plank — BS work. This shot would have surfaced (excuse the puns) on the wire. Plus, there's the "smiling" woman and the fact that the waves weren't some Irwin Allen production of "Tidal Wave," but cascading waves of flooding. Can't believe the Calgary paper published this without thinking, "Gee, it looks ... unreal."
A couple of good points from a photo editor here, who did NOT see this on the wires:
Why are these people wearing street clothes? Look at that guy in, like, a suit. Also, The Herald doesn't have a story on the photographer. I don't know about the rest of you, but we'd certainly be writing a bit on the local traveler who took an amazing shot and survived the tsunami.
The credit reads, "Photo courtesty of Dr. Joseph Edison." I don't know about you, but I'm off to google him....
Five bucks says they were at Splash Mountain at Walt Disney World.
EDIT:
Dr. Joseph Edison had only a handful of results come up, but at least two of them were from that area of the world, which makes them SLIGHTLY more plausible. _________________ [-,-] Stoic boy, you're far from home

It also means that it could have been photoshopped at Dr. Edison's home on the southwest Indian coast.
Here's the story: This is a two-year-old Reuters photo of a tsunami in China. You might remember the event: a bunch of people went to watch the waves and it turned out to be bigger than they thought. Anyway, the doctor gave the photo to the mayor of Calgary--he'd saved it for fundraising purposes. The Mayor showed it during a presentation on tsunami aid and the herald asked if they could have it thinking it was from this tsunami. Apparently their director of photography wasn't on last night.

I'd keep an eye out for a huge-ass correction
Whoa, some pretty surprising things have happened due to this tsunami in terms of coverage.
At least, unlike the Daily News cover, this wasn't due to a complete lack of journalistic logic. This was just carelessness (which is still pretty bad, but at least ranks a couple notches down on the totem pole). _________________ [-,-] Stoic boy, you're far from home
