SND results anticipation thread

-----------------------------------

According to the recently-updated SND website, the full searchable database of winners should be posted in about four hours, at 7:00 PM EST. Did you win any? Post them here.

Cool - now if I can find one of those groovy javascript countdown clocks I'll hack it into the home page to build some drama.

PLUS: SND Web Editor Rich Boudet todays also posts this "I think American papers are stuck in one model. It's constrained. They just do a reinterpretation of the way newspapers used to be. Of course there is elevated typography, but basically the papers are built on the same model.

Too few American editors and designers – and people who care – are looking at the really good papers in Spain, Mexico, and Germany, for instance, for inspiration."

Or South America, South Asia, Pacifica, or the U.K., or Korea, or India, or . . . Preach on Brother Phil.

What is we all saying here? In a word -Weltanschaung
» Welt·an·schau·ung (v lt'än'shou' ng)
n., pl. -ungs or -ung·en (-ng-n).
See worldview.

Post up you winners, you. ;-)

true. but we also need to stop looking at newspapers. there's a vast world of inspiration out there.

B-I-N-G-O - You are absolutley correct, sir. There is great inspiration to be tapped into from elsewhere.

OK, I have wired up a Doomsday countdown clock on the home page . . . tick, tock.

I hope the clock is correct, but a call just now from the SND office says that they are having uploading trouble. SND does not want to upload the database only to have a bazillion timeouts or errors, so be patient if it does not happen today. The SND office is troubleshooting now.

I just changed the snd.org page to Monday, just to be safe. Sorry, gang ...

And please don't kill the messenger (ducking now).

What a horrible tease! :-P But the results are coming to us earlier, I think, than they have in the past few years. For that, I am happy.

Type answer: The font is Gotham Condensed (that's the Bold version you see on the World's-Best page).

Background: Gotham family, with 20 styles, is from Hoefler & Frere-Jones, the New York City type foundry. They are kind enough to donate their type to SND for our Web project. Generous geniuses, these folks.

No shock and awe here after seeing the results. I think it's a solid lineup as always. (I will be shocked if there's not a thread bemoaning what *didn't* make it...)

Congrats to the winners. I didn't see a whole lot that surprised me when browsing on there.

Oh, and I told ya it would win, Angle...

I would say these were some tough judges, what with no Gold winners. If you got a Silver or a JSR, feel darn good.

And if you are one Matt Petty, feel very good. Mr. Petty is the winner of three (yes, three!) portfolio awards. That's some good stuff, dude ... Even if you do work at that other Bay Area paper;)

I think MattE lost, but luckily he was able to get some lines on some girls junior high basketball sectional finals, so he's hoping to make his money back there. Go East Aurora Junior High Lady Cougars!

Thanks, Alex. But I don't have a problem. Just because I once bet on which bird would fly off the fence first doesn't mean I have a gambling addiction. Most of this is all in jest.

OK, the betting on junior high girls basketball is in jest. As is betting on how many awards Rodrigo would win. (I would never want to go down in history as the Pete Rose of competition coordinators!)
